
MoMos are the defining dish of Napelese Cuisine.
You may have them with a traditional dipping sauce or surved in a spicy chilli sauce.
It is believed that Momos are of Tibetan origin. Merchants most likely brought the dish to nearby lands. In Nepal, Momos gained heightened popularity among the Newar Community of Kathmandu Valley of Nepal. The Newars are people who have lived in the Kathmandu Valley for at last 2,000 years. They are a people of Mongoloid and Mediterranean origin. The Newars traders were key traders on the Silk Road and most likely brought the recipe for the dumplings from Tibet. The filling of Tibetan Momos was mostly yak and Buffalo meat as Tibetan diets suffered from a scarcity of vegetables. The people of Nepal introduced vegetarian fillings to satify the large population of vegetarians. Beyond filling options, the Newar also introduced a new seasoning tradition to Momos. They cuisine uses spices such as Garlic, Ginger, Cumin, Coriander, Cardamom, Clove. To the people of Nepal, Momos are ubiquitous. They are to Napel that burgers and pizza are in America.
